Beginning January 1st, 2020 all income-eligible Californians up to age 26 are able to get FREE full-scope Medi-Cal, regardless of their immigration status.
Medi-Cal is California’s version of Medicaid, a health insurance program for low-income people. This expansion means that undocumented young adults can get the health care that they need to thrive!
Enrolling in Medi-Cal means you will have access to health services for FREE or at low cost, including preventive services.
DID YOU KNOW? #Health4AllYoungAdults is an expansion to the landmark legislation #Health4AllKids (also known as SB 75). Individuals aging out of Health4All Kids due to turning 19 can now continue receiving full coverage!

- Individuals ages 19 up to 26
- Individuals who are undocumented*
- Individuals who are not yet enrolled in Medi-Cal

*individuals who have “unsatisfactory immigration status” for full-scope Medi-Cal or are unable to verify citizenship
- You are eligible, but no need to reapply!
- Individuals ages 19 up to 26 who were already enrolled in restricted scope Medi-Cal* were automatically enrolled in full coverage beginning January 1st.
- You should have received a letter in November from the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) with general information and in December from your country informing you that your benefits were changing to full-scope.

- No, the Medi-Cal expansion for young adults is state-funded and not federally funded. It will NOT be counted in the public charge test.
